Roses Not Just For Valentine’s

In times gone past…

Now a few years ago I wouldn’t have given any perfume or beauty product smelling of roses a second whiff, however times change. Perhaps with my subtle age increase I have become a lover of the more classic things in life. Rose scented products have become so much better over the years. Now there is no fear of smelling like a an old Granny if I wear them!

Remember as a child making your first rose perfume? You must have we all did it! Going around the garden and picking all your parent’s roses for the petals. I’m sure they loved us all doing that with their beautiful blooms! Then carefully putting them in a jar in the hope that they would then overnight magically become the most sweet smelling rose perfume? Yes I did this a lot, however it never did smell of anything but soggy petals in water. My time as a Perfumer was very short, my skill in perfume compositions was very limited as a child.

Rose for now

Now as a forty something I’m happier to just potter around rose gardens instead and enjoy their beauty. I am lucky enough to live near David Austin Roses in Shropshire. Every year I get to walk around their beautiful gardens in the summertime when all the roses are in bloom. A quintessential British summer’s day having a spot of afternoon tea and then a walk around their gardens blooming lovely. I highly recommend it. So my love for the rose grows.

Rose is fast becoming a popular ingredient within the beauty industry for its universal appeal to all skin types, anti-aging qualities and hydrating and soothing qualities. Now thankfully we have a vast selection of beautiful smelling rose products on the market. I have compiled a list of my favourite one’s so you’ll always come up smelling of roses from head to toe! Some of these I have been gifted by friends, some I use day to day and other’s are treats when I fancy a splurge.

Top picks

Here is a quick intro into all the products listed below. Molton Brown what can I say, its been a firm favourite in my household for years. I absolutely adore their products. This Rhubarb and Rose shower gel is just beautiful and they also stock other items in this including the hand cream which you’ll find is a staple in my handbag. Fresh Rose face mask is a unique cooling gel formula infused with real rose petals that literally melt into the skin, one word divine. Jo Malone a classic Red Rose fragrance, a voluptuous scent blended from seven of the worlds exquisite roses, surprisingly clean and sheer.

I love anything for my hair

I find that the Kerastase Nourishing Rose Oil not only makes my hair smell amazing but it also helps with the colour as my hair is treated. It gives your hair such a vibrant shine, worth every penny. Candles who doesn’t love a candle? I’ve listed two here but I’ve come across lots of rose candles that are worth a purchase. This Diptyque Damascena candle is part of their roses collection. Not only does it have beautiful packaging so perfect for a gift it delivers the most sweet, rich luxurious scent to your home.

Recently I’ve been getting into facial oils perhaps it’s an age thing and the sleep deprivation is finally taking its toll on my skin. I wanted to give this Laura Mercier a go as this was a brand that came highly recommended. I really loved it, it’s so lightweight and you only need a couple of drops in your moisturiser and its gives you a soft radiant glow. It’s also multi purpose so you can use it on the ends of your hair and your nails.

Sanctuary Spa products I love and have used them for years. This White Lily & Damask Rose range was bought for me when I had my baby shower. The products were a lovely treat I totally fell in love with this range. The shower gel is smells just beautiful and is also a regular in my household. REN Moroccan Rose Otto Bath Oil, is one of my luxurious products, why I hear you say? Not necessarily because of the cost but just because I don’t have many baths these days since having my little boy! When I do have the luxury of a long relaxing soak this is a product I will use. On the theme of pregnancy I used this Pixi Rose tonic listed below when I used to have outbreak’s. I found it to really tone and calm my skin and keep it refreshed.

Elemis beauty balms are amazing and I have used them for years. I adore Elemis products and always make a bee line for their beauty treatments in spa’s. This is my splurge this gorgeous 200g limited edition pro-collagen rose cleansing balm and comes in such beautiful packaging. It leaves my skin feeling cleansed, nourished and glowing.

Another luxury item is this By Terry Baume de Rose, it isn’t the cheapest on the market for lip balms but it is a firm favourite and has a cult following. Again this is a product that you can use on your cuticles. They have also added the Nutri-Couleur range so you can get it in various shades and use it as your main lip colour.

And lastly

My other favourite candle by a brand I love Neom. This 3 wick candle is a blend of moroccan blush rose, lime & black pepper and essential oils. It’s expertly blended to help ease tension and calm to relax the body and mind and boy don’t I need this some days!

So there you have it

My favourite Rose products. I would love to know what your favourites are too. I am always on the look out for new products and to share them with everyone #sharethelove.
