Summer Ball Dresses That Will Make You The Belle of The Ball

In a few weeks time I have a Summer Ball to attend with my NCT mums, a rare night out for us all. So I promised the girl’s I would take a look at outfit options and blog about them.

So if your social calendar is brimming over with glamorous events this edit will find you in good time.

I love seeing what all the glamourati are wearing at The Serpentine Summer Party each year as this is one of the hottest tickets in town come June. I love getting inspo from outfits and here are a few of my best dressed ladies on the night.

Whether it’s a summer party, prom, ball I have scoured the high street and online for the most beautiful dresses.

Things to remember…

So my top tip about looking great at a ball/event is too choose something thats makes you feel good. You may not be exactly used to swanning around in a long gown but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try something new and not stick to your usual style rules.

What’s your thing? Don’t get anything that is not you. If you wear bright colours stick with bright colours they will make you more likely to feel confident and go hit that dance floor!

Likewise, If you’re more comfortable in sleeves, opt for a ball dress that includes them, whether that’s long sheer or lacy sleeves, puffy or capped find something you like. It’s all about dressing to make YOU feel confident.

Accessories To Die For

I adore buying accessories for an outfit, I am definitely a shoes and bags kind of gal! To me footwear is also key to the ensemble you choose. While you want to be comfortable enough to dance the night away, if you’re opting for a floor-length ball dress, having a couple of inches of heel might be necessary to keep your hem off the ground. I always take a pair of heels with me when trying on dresses so I know what shoes will be necessary and factor this into the decision making. If the dress is too long for you still but you love it (which I have found on many occasions) then this is when its imperative you have a good tailor to hand, they are worth their weight in gold!

High-end or High Street

I tend to invest in a good comfy pair of heels and that has always been Jimmy Choo for me. What I love about this brand is the choice of designs but most importantly how comfy they are. I have worn before now Charlotte Olympia and Christian Louboutin, stunning shoes but oh they are uncomfortable after a while. However you don’t need to go high-end to find lots of amazing heels, brands like Kurt Geiger and Carvela often have similar styled shoes to Jimmy Choo. LK Bennett, Next, Zara and Karen Millen are other high street favourites. For those wanting a great deal head over to Shoeaholics or TK Maxx for big discounts.

Bags are my bag! My dear friends will tell you this. I have been investing in designer bags for year’s now (my step daughter is thrilled about this!) and collect ones that will go with outfits for any occasion, always thinking ahead. When I don’t think I will use them anymore I sell them and recoup some monies for the next purchase! My favourite high-end evening bags would be Jimmy Choo, Aspinal of London, Saint Laurent, Shrimps, Chanel and Mulberry. Sometimes I just like the ease of getting matching accessories so look for brands that offer both bag and shoes options.

High Street options are Karen Millen, Ted Baker, Debenhams, Marks & Spencer, Dune London, Zara, Mango, River Island, H&M, LK Bennett too many to list. The UK has the best high street fashion in the world take advantage of!

A ball is a great opportunity to go all-out and invest in a statement gown that will really turn heads, as you know I just adore all things Needle & Thread with their gorgeous embellished and tulle dresses. Ghost London come a close second with their beautifully cut dresses too. I would suggest if you want to keep the cost-per-wear low, think practical and opt for a simple but smart maxi and add a touch of glamour with some sparkling costume jewellery. If you like second hand chic try Ebay or charity shops sites such as Oxfam that have their gowns online.

Renting dresses has been popular for sometime now, whereby you can rent a gown for a few days and send it back when you are finished with it. The beauty of these sites is that you choose a few options and then go with your favourite, so you get the trying on session in the comfy surroundings of our own home. If you like high-end designer dresses this is also a good option for you as you get to wear the dress without paying the four figure price tag, that’s got to be good for the bank balance. Try out sites like Girl Meets Dress and My Celebrity Dress.
